They only paid the driver 2000 yen!?!?!?!?!? Scandalous.

If this is the case, then all of the Upper and Lower Houses of the Diet should all resign in disgrace. Aren't they also in violation of the Constitution for all their visits to Yasukuni? Blinky Ishihara should also resign in disgrace for the same reason.

So, a mayor of a city can't visit a shrine.......but a Prime Minister can?!?!? How is that fair???

Well, it doesn-t say he cant. He can do it but as a personal issue, not as an oficial visit. I suppose for prime ministers is the same...

When the Prime Ministers go to Yasukuni they always make sure everyone knows it's a 'private' visit - the same day, every year; with their entourage of flunkies and the rest of the cabinet - dressed formally. Just a private visit, mind you. In fact, sometimes they even walk from their offices to the shrine instead of having a government-paid driver take them. This mayor seems to have forgotten to say 'it's a private visit.'

I think that the rulings regarding state and religion are a little more detailed than this? Something like, religion can't be in the state, but the state can be in religion.....or something like that? Anybody clear on that? Maybe it's the other way round?

So what exactly is this particular shrine about?
