they alreasy thought aso was a goose before Hatoyama`s resignation. Especially when Aso was against having police interogations being recorded.. on the grounnds of what? i might add.

So are we to be led to belief that the Japanese electorate loved "shoot from the lip" Hatoyama. Give me a break, the recently departed minister already has a big enough ego without comments such as this.

In terms of why Aso's popularity has gone through the floor, it might be because average folks can see him for what he is. A factionally weak, stop gap PM who is a few cans short of a six pack.

At the same time, however, the LDP will probably win the coming election easily, considering that the opposition is an even greater joke.

I sincerely hope that they will blame/link Hatoyama's resignation to Nikkei's sharp decline for last two days.

Hey LDP Morons!! The reason your numbers are declining has everything to do with the fact that you are not representing the people and they are getting angry about it. They are tired of your announcements followed by inaction. They are tired of your utter failure to listen to their concerns and priorities. And they are sick of your corruption and infighting.

So get a clue Ministers. Wake up and see that the sky is really falling and the the only people you can really blame are your incompetent selves.

No, all the indications are that they won't. They might get a simple majority, but they need two thirds of the House of Representatives seats to bypass the upper house veto on new bills. In the absence of any coherent policies, other than "run the country into the ground for the personal benefit of ourselves and a few nazi geriatric cronies," the LDP needs a slick spinmeister like Koizumi to pull that off. How well do you expect Aso to do, when it took him three or four tries to get elected as president of the LDP?

really ? i thought it was because they hated you

Lack of public support can be blamed on inept ministers in the cabinet with their insipid efforts to fix Japan.

  • realist at 05:48 PM JST - 16th June

I hope this brings down the entire government, and an Election is called so that the Japanese people can rise up and rid themselves of this bunch of fruitcakes.

  • mareo2 at 07:25 PM JST - 16th June

So growing unemployment and lower salaries is not even in the radar of the LDP?

  • smithinjapan at 09:52 PM JST - 16th June

Hatoyama is not at all the reason for the sharp decline -- he's simply the reason the public is willing to publicly show it. Hell, we all need a little catalyst to get things started every now and again; now all these people are just finally saying what the LDP has been afraid to hear for quite some time now.
