Exactly. Hashimoto pulled the same trick recently.

Yeah, he'll "lose credibility" if he doesn't call an election. Sorry, but he'll lose credibility -- what little he has left -- even if he does, and particularly given the fact that only yesterday he denied any plan to dissolve the lower house and call said elections. So, either way he's going to lose credibility -- and he's certainly not going to GAIN any by winning an election as a mere political tactic to shirk any responsibility for bad decisions. The sad part is that as pathetic a 'leader' as Abe is, there aren't really any better alternatives. Such is the state of Japanese politics and the nation.

Farmboy: There are more than just two parties to choose from but out of those two, I don't beleive either has a viable canadate. Viable: meaning, capable of working successfully. Personally I believe a hard working janitor would do a better job than these corrupted politicians.

Abe is not a credible candidate either.

Ladies and gentlemen, Abe has LOST any credibility he may once have had.
Everything he touched has turned to manure.
Including, by all accounts the recent China meeting.
And we'd better say these things now, because after December, thanks to the Abe "secrets" law, we could be arrested.

Japanese politbeaurou has decided the result- its a child of a previous ministerial person I bet you.

smith -- spot on, as usual. Japan is, in large part, in the plight it is in because the Diet, and especially the folks in leadership positions of the LDP, are career and second and third-generation politicians, who know all about the "game" of politics and how to play the elecorate to their advantage, but know next to nothing about actually leading or promoting policies that will address the country's many structural issues. Sad that the citizens have let it evolve into this.

jeseyboy, Are you talking about your country?

I think momentum should be building up for Chinese President Xi Jinping to call an election for the first time in Communist China's history.

Abe may win an early election, that doesn’t necessarily give him a mandate or add any credits for him to lead Japan out of the prolonged deflation era.
He failed the Japanese people, that is that.

With the crippling amount of public debt here, the last thing Japan needs is a HUGELY expensive early election. If Abe does call it early, I hope the public responds by giving him a kick in the pants. Not looking forward to another instalment of geriatrics with megaphones at 90 decibels, I can tell you...

Q 1 Early election Will LDP lose ,majority? Which Party will gain majoritty?
Q 2 If LDP keeps majority, who will be LDP head?
Q 3 How PM is decided? Different way than placing head of majy?

Japanese goverment is an open door.... Ahhhh. This guy is no longer popular replace him.... Next guy in until his popularity falls.... Then out and in with another.... Sure their popularity will fall, they are politicians. Has anyone met one they trust?
I am not an Abe fan but why not let people try and fix what they messed up? Hmmmmm. Or on reflection is it thought that they broke it they cannot fix it?

tina -- no, I was obviously talking about Japan. I will be the first to admit that the U.S. Congress, especially the House, is totally dysfunctional right now due to a large minority of ideologues refusing to compromise and actually govern. But that does not make Japan's problems any less concerning, or my observations any less valid. Why don't you talk about "your country" instead of just posting off-topic comments?
Simon Foston
Momentum should be building up for lots of other things to happen as well, but it isn't - and none of them have anything to do with the topic of Japanese elections.

Why can't you see that it applies to US as well.
