Funny. Korea "urges".... cute. Japan can't get along with S.Korea, why does the North think that it could be different for them. The only country that Japan seems to get along with is America. (And it really only seems that way.)

He also said Japan’s ‘‘hostile’’ policy has made it difficult for North Korea to launch a fresh investigation into cases of abduction of Japanese nationals, which the two sides agreed to at bilateral talks a year ago in China.

There are those who might view abduction itself as rather hostile.

"Japan can't get along with S.Korea"

No, S.Korea can't get along with Japan.

"The only country that Japan seems to get along with is America. (And it really only seems that way.)"

So you're meaning that Japan can't get along with all the other 202 countries? A classic example of wishful thinking if you'd ask me.

As is NK never uses hostile language or actions. Which side made abductions, makes nuclear weapons, and makes threats? I love NK. They never cease to amuse with the rediculous.

    Again, let them starve...

I think North Korea is reaching out for peace and change in Asia. Its not always easy for a dictator to try to change his ways with the times, but I respect Kim for trying to make that change.

Japan has the oppertunity to make some peace with its neighbors that have WMD. I think if Japan would stop being racist as they have always been in Government, and take advantage of the chance to have security in there back yard, they should open up business with North Korea and friendship, or else someday things could go down that could take Japan off of the map.

You can't play around with a dictator, all they gotta do is say I'm gonna die soon, drop the A-bombs, and there's nothing a nation could do to stop the mass destruction. Some people gotta learn how to get along with others, and stop being racist and relying on America all the time.

If only this "urging" was an indicator that sanctions were actually having some effect...

DPRK has a dilemma where they want to have nuclear weapons as a security instrument, but uses arms to intimidate their neighbors - ballistic missile test over part of Japan w/out consent. Private pleasures aside, the DPRK should realize that their behavior is contrary to international norms, thus the resolutions against the DPRK. Japan and ROK has few options, other than implement constraints on armament and its components shipments in and out of the DPRK. DPRK uses pressure to pursue their interests, thus parties must use pressure to get the DPRK to end their weapons program - action results in reaction. The 6 parties talks is a way to get better options than pressure - the path to a more secure, prosperous future IF the conditions of the agreement can be guaranteed/verified.

Ro is incorrect. The US doesn't have the largest number of nuclear weapons in the world; that's Russia, by far. Pointed at NK? Well, that's a different story.

  • OssanAmerica at 11:33 PM JST - 13th August

He also said Japan’s ‘‘hostile’’ policy has made it difficult for North >Korea to launch a fresh investigation into cases of abduction of >Japanese nationals,

Japan (and others') "hotile policy" came about as a direct result of NKorea's own brazen disregard for the 6 part talks, UN resolutions and geberal lack of any cooperation with it's neighbors on anything.

the United States, which has the biggest number of nuclear weapons in >the world.’’

    Incorrect.

North Korea has never been provided with any nuclear umbrella to cope >with what it views as the U.S. nuclear threat,

So the 1961 Chinese agreement that it will defend NKorea from any attack is meaningless?

Similarly, Ro criticized some forces in Japan who advocate that it >should go nuclear, saying such an argument ‘‘is not intended to protect >the country, but to arm the country with nuclear weapons by using us as >an excuse.’’

Utter hypocracesy comming from a rogue country that just went nuclear against the urgings of the entire woprld including China and Russia.

the six-party talks mechanism has turned into a forum that seeks >to ‘‘block our country’s normal economic development.’’

"Normal" usually means that the country has a healthjy economy, can feed itself and has eough energy to keep the lights on. If anything the 6-oarty talks are aimed at stopping NKOreas ABNORNAL economic and military development.

NK's dictator is not trying to reach out for peace and change. He is reaching out for cash and electricity. Let the bustard starve in the dark.

The only hostile party in the region is NK. If NK were not around things would be much quieter and more prosperous. NK is a blight on the globe.

  • KyotoChris at 03:42 AM JST - 14th August

    ca1ic0cat:

Let the bustard starve in the dark.

I'm no fan of Kim but as is most often the case, sanctions affect only the poor people in the targeted company and not the leadership who are already stocked well enough.

I'm all for cooperation and reconciliation as long as there is a guarantee and oversight that the poor people who need the supplies the most are receiving it and it's not being taken by an already bloated regime leaders.

  • NeilWarnock at 06:57 AM JST - 14th August

Hold on and you're doing well DPRK. You have avoided a US illegal invasions and more hundreds of thousands of kidnappings and slevery for your people from Japan.

North Korea aren't dumb. They hav ethe weapons to halt US and Jpaans aggresive policies, and the US and Japan don't like it nowt, well boo hoo!
