New Chief Cabinet Secretary got donations from questionable sources
TOKYO —
A local branch of the Liberal Democratic Party in Yamaguchi Prefecture, headed by newly-appointed Chief Cabinet Secretary Takeo Kawamura, received some 4.1 million yen in donations from seven corporations, including those involved in bid-riggings over a three-year period through 2006, he admitted Thursday.
‘‘They were not illegal donations, but I have instructed the branch to return them from a moral standpoint,’’ Kawamura told a press conference after assuming the post of the government spokesperson the previous day. The corporations in question also include a social welfare corporation in the city of Yamaguchi that faced administrative direction for illegally receiving nursing-care benefits.

Ha ha! One day in and the apologies begin. How about taking care of all your dodgy dealings before you step into the spotlight?
Incidentally, this guy is also taking care of the abduction issue from now on. And when I say now on, I mean until the cabinet is again dissolved in a month's time and we can do this all over again. Whee!

How come the "moral standpoint" only reared its ugly head when he became Chief Cabinet Secretary? Are we to presume he had no morals before yesterday -- like virtually all his counterparts? What a laugh.

I guess the Cabinet vetting process is only a matter of who has the fewest bones in the closet to hide?
Perhaps the LDP election strategy is simply to hold the election as quick as possible before the next scandal surfaces?
