How about in fiscal 2011 we have a final 3-year agreement with an eye on the removal of U.S. forces from Japan by 2015? Japanese young people should have the responsibility of defending this country, and then we could dispense with the incessant U.S. military bashing.

I'll second that motion... not that I see it happening.

Not because I don't enjoy serving here... I have been pleasantly surprised at how much I have enjoyed being here since January!

Given China's military buildup and its open and growing hostility, do you really want to rely on young Japanese to defend the nation? At this point, I'd be encouraging the Americans to stay. Do you think the recent expansion of Patriot missile installations around Tokyo was to deal with a threat from North Korea (as the government stated)? The DPRK provides a convenient excuse, but the real reason is significantly more concerning.

There's not enough Patriot 3 missiles to stop all the missles China could throw at Japan.

"There's not enough Patriot 3 missiles to stop all the missles China could throw at Japan."

The idea is that China would be throwing her missles at Taiwan and and the 7th fleet at the same time. And whoever else they may have pissed off by then.
