‘‘It’s all about whether we can achieve a change of government or not, and it will be a loss for us if we fail to reach the point where we can achieve it,’’

I hope DPJ wins, if only to have some new faces around. If I could vote, I'd do anything to oust the LDP, Aso, and that Tokyo hate-monger Ishihara short of throwing steak knives at their heads.

With the mood of change and "Yes, we can!", from the U.S., the DPJ should win easily. There are probably a lot of voters who will ride this wind of change, just for the sake of riding it, and vote for the DPJ just to get rid of the LDP for a while. I am with Gaininocchio, I would vote against the LDP in a heartbeat, if I had the vote. I wish that long-stayers (I've been here since 1990.) could have a vote. What was the phrase from America? Taxation without representation is tyranny. Maybe the DPJ will push for votes for foreigners. That would probably guarantee them several votes in future elections...

    They can do it.

Periodic changes in the political landscape are the sign of a healthy democracy. While Japan has hobbled along for a long time with a ball and chain around its ankles (the LDP/the bureaucracy/big business), due to Toxic Taro the DPJ actually has a shot of winning in the upcoming election. Not only do I hope they win, I hope they have the stability to remain in power for more than one term. A decade or so on the opposition benches would do wonders for the LDP.

Its not going to change much unfortunately, and more likely to get worse. DPJ has already indicated desire to go nuclear, and we already know where that leads. JC is King.

seeker1: You want the right to vote? Naturalise.

Your quote is way out of context, too.

If DPJ doesn't win this time, they'll NEVER win.

I'm usually neutral on these things but for some reason I really want Hatoyama to win. This was in eye-popper. Haha~

Gaijinocchio My sentiments exactly. of course as unwanted gaijin in this country we have no voting rights.

  • UnagiDon at 04:08 AM JST - 20th July

You want to vote? Naturalize and get citizenship, just like foreign residents have to do in your home country. Hypocrites.
