Noda's blog now available in English

TOKYO —

Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda’s blog is now available in English, the Prime Minister’s Office said Thursday. Noda launched his Japanese blog on Monday. The Prime Minister’s Office said Noda will update the blog once a week.

In his opening English blog, Noda writes: “Hello to all the Japanese people. I am Yoshihiko Noda, appointed Prime Minister recently. Taking a lesson from some of the prime ministers who preceded me, I have decided to launch this blog in order to convey to you, the public, the job performance of the Noda Cabinet.”

The blog can be found at http://nodasblog.kantei.go.jp/

That is a great idea and, yes, you can even leave comments. Too sad he only addresses Japanese people, he should change that to citizens.

    "Japanese people" = "citizens".

    I guess you mean "residents"?

So he casually mentions that fisherman are landing fish in the sea that Kan dumped vast amounts of highly radioactive waste water...

Following is a message I sent to his blog: * Hello Mr. Noda,

I am long-term (permanent) resident of Japan and am confused as to why you have your blog posts translated from Japanese into English. For example, "国民の皆さん、こんにちは." is translated into "Hello to all the Japanese people." Do you understand that this means that your words are only meant for the citizens of Japan? Furthermore, since it is often said that all Japanese can read Japanese, they don't need your words translated into English.

As such, please stop using English, or if you do, please write blog posts that are not insulting to the rest of the world especially to the hard-working residents of Japan who pay taxes, own homes, have families, and make valuable contributions to Japanese society.

    Yours sincerely, Eric M. Skier*

Will let you know what happens, if anything.

Hey George Bush invited Eazy-E to the whitehouse.. You never know. Godan may become the next minister for Industry. Edano is bound to mess up ' My only experience with Nuclear power plants was when I built one with Meccano and chewing gum and glow sticks' Howls from the LDP, snarls from Ozawa, coos from Hatoyama and Godan is our man! Can't wait. Might write my own comment: mr Yoda, forget all this radiation palaver for a moment.. Do you follow Hanshin or the Giants? The citizens wanna know'

This could be a good move. A blog isn't a hobby in this case, it's part and parcel of good communication. He can work hard and blog, though I suspect he dictates it to an aide or something like that. I wonder what Tanagaki's blog would look like. Monday: called for an election; Tuesday: called for an election; Wednesday.....

A weekly English blog from kantei.go.jp is sent out via email to which I'm subscribed since Koizumi, so yes, nothing new about their staff updating the international community. Probably soon to be found on Twitter.

Do you think if we got our act together and started one big special JT blog he'd follow it?

Blog, what's that? Like cassette tapes it is last century. The latest generation use twit, facebook and cumswap. He needs to catch up.

It'd be nice instead of this whole 3rd grader level "This is what I did and saw today" diary style of blog, he actually conveyed some of his, I dunno, ideas/plans/goals rather than these "exchange of views" and "reflections" he keeps talking about. Useless.

I'm sure he just dictates the blog contents, which is then actually posted in Japanese by a staffer. Another staffer then takes the Japanese blog and posts an English version. Thus, he addresses the Japanese people in Japanese and ends up sounding like he's snubbing everyone else when it gets translated to English. Sounds like he's needing a crash course in ethnic diplomacy.

Noda starts all (two) of his blog posts with "Hello to all the Japanese people." in spite of Eric (Godan) Skier's spot-on comment.

It is like he wants to emphasise "I am not addressing myself to non-Japanese people." Perhaps that is what he wants to say? Like "Let us take pride in our convictions and stop kowtowing to foreign opinion, and what is more tell non Japanese that we no longer care what they think." Even if intentional it seems a bad idea.

A great move by Noda. I have already submitted my fiscal policy idea to Noda promoting a job growth. Hope someone reads mine.
