Noda's U.S. visit postponed from January to March or April
TOKYO —
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda will likely visit the United States for a summit with U.S. President Barack Obama in March or April instead of January as had been initially planned.
A Foreign Ministry official said Tuesday that a visit in January would be difficult for Noda because the Diet session will have just started, NHK reported. Also, Japanese government officials believe it will take more time for the Noda cabinet to make progress on the Futenma base relocation issue and the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba will visit Washington next Monday to hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.

Will it be Noda or New Prime Minister? Depends whether Mr. Noda gambles over consumption tax hike or not.

There should be a policy that a Japanese PM should be on the job 6 months before he sheds the unofficial title "interim" and have his name on the office door and can visit U.S. summits and for other nation leaders to bother remembering his name, like with seasonal workers.

Obviously the White House figures Noda won't make it to the spring. So no sense wasting Obama's time on anothet short-timer. Thye've been down that road at least three times already.
