TPP isnt dead as all the doomsdayers would like, J farmers and big J business have been screwing Japanese for decades, time for some real competition and variety in this economy.

I agree, the people that are against this are big business or traffic industries, let the consumer decide!

I'm against this too because they packed SOPA into their TPP. Removing the surveillance part of the deal then i can agree.

But Japanese products are so much better! They taste better, are healthier, look better, and for the price are worth it!

Said one "glowing" mother who purchased rice and other products from Fukushima that were improperly labeled as being "safe".

Everything Japanese is better......said the rest of the folks in the check-out isle, not realizing that over 60% of their food is imported!

One has to remain hopeful that it will not pass and the TPP agreement will die. This has nothing to do with people otherwise it wouldn't be completely secret.

One has to remain hopeful that it will pass. TPP will help to bring Japan (screaming of course) into the 21st century.

Yubaru: Japan doesn't need a trade agreement for that. Japan needs Japanese to want democracy

sf2k, one helps to bring the other, and Japanese markets are overly subsidized and need to be blown open. People also need to get their heads out of the sand and quit thinking that everything made in Japan is superior to the rest of the world.

We pay far too much for too many things here and TPP will change that.

Unfortunately the lives ruined as a result of the sudden change won't help anyone. TPP will do nothing for people, just corporations and buyers. Eventually industries would fail in Japan and that's not a good thing.

By hook or by crook the subsides keep industries alive in Japan for locals. Dumping cheap foods and price drops will ruin Japanese businesses. I'm glad people don't mind paying for local foods (not a lot of choice there I agree something has to be done) but eventually the cheap food will whittle down industry after industry. No one can compete with cheap labour.

Japan decided to protect some industries and with a declining population and economy there's no reason to expect any recourse for the country. Suddenly lifting subsidies just puts those same subsidies back when they can't work. It's not a simple problem I'm afraid. People should be able to work rather than be unemployed.

Spontaneous endless growth isn't going to happen anymore. TPP isn't a good fit for Japan. General trade reductions overtime to reduce subsidies, but only where possible. Unfortunately a blanket deletion will impoverish towns.

Trade agreements for a declining economy and population aren't really of value. The merry-go-round of endless growth has come to an end and unfortunately for Japan it will decline much like the USA has when it sold out to China.

This is one thing that Japan doesn't have to duplicate from USA
