It is regrettable but cannot be helped

pretty much sums up J politicians approach to any and all problems

They'd be much better off letting Aso and his cronies continue digging their own graves. Nothing the DPJ says is going to make Aso any less popular than he already is.

Ozawa should be spending the majority of his time convincing the public that his party actually has policies that will help this country, and that he has leadership qualities we sorely need. At the moment the public may have no confidence in Aso, but they also have little confidence that Ozawa and the DPJ can do the job of reforming this country either.

What a bunch of useless idiots and political maggots. The LDP are too inbred to realize that the entire country hates them and finally is starting to see them for the corrupt collection of opportunists and corrupt politicians. Ozawa and his bunch are no better equipped to run the country but are biting at the bit to get in and steal their share of the remaining wealth.

Japan, it is time you woke up and demanded real leadership from outside these petty parties. You MUST find a competent leader and people to support him if you are to remain an important country. If you fail to act, you condemn the future of this country to ever growing obscurity as your Asian neighbors outpace you and the rest of the world realizes just how weak Japan truly is.

Do these mullets actually do anything besides sit around a table thinking of reasons to undermine each other? As Japan sinks into a depression the politicians sit in cabinet throwing oranges at each other. Possibly the country should be taken over by the yaks. At least they have stable leadership.

While I don't agree with the ammo they often use to fire away at rivals, I have to agree that the days of Aso are numbered.

    Shoganai.... LLLOOOOOOOOLL

Tadamori Oshima, Diet affairs chief of the LDP, also said, ‘‘He did not make mistakes in policies. His physical condition had its limits.’’

    Sack him too!

Uhhhh, yes it can be helped. The news showed him on two other previous occasions giving speeches drunk. In one case his hands were shaking and he couldn't read from the paper. It was sad.

But what is more sad is that denial, saving face and illogical explanations still rule the day in Japan.

    The good old "shoganai"....

Taxi driver Takashi Ito, 52, said, ‘‘It can’t be helped because he embarrassed himself in front of the world. But I suppose he was in a poor physical condition.’’

i hate how people are so quick to shrug their shoulders and shuffle their feet. even when i watch japanese protesters on television, they're so "hanpa". where's the passion?

At least Japan dealt with the issue. America swept Bush's public drunkenness at the Beijing Olympic under the rug, and ever though there was video and pictures, no one saw it. The problem is that Japan is merely replacing one trust-fund baby with another LDP insider ill-equipped to deal with the impending economic meltdown.

‘‘He was always dashing. I wanted him to work hard because he became a minister.’’

Great way to pick a politician. The Japanese equivilent of "to hell with the smarter guy, I want a president I could have a beer with!"
