Ozawa criticizes Noda for reneging on election pledges
IWATE —
Former Democratic Party of Japan leader Ichiro Ozawa on Tuesday once again criticized Prime Minister Noda for his plan to raise the consumption tax.
Ozawa made the remarks during a visit to Rikuzentakata in his home prefecture of Iwate. Ozawa was making his first visit to the devastated region since the March 11 tsunami. He received a big welcome when he visited elderly evacuees living in temporary housing.
He said Noda has continually failed to explain his position on the proposed tax hike to the Japanese people. “He needs to help the people understand where he’s coming from and show the people that the DPJ honors its election manifesto,” Fuji TV reported.
Ozawa has repeatedly criticized Noda for his proposed 10% consumption tax hike to pay for the rebuilding of the disaster-hit Tohoku region. He said the public is not receptive to a tax hike at this time.
Meanwhile, Noda, speaking at a high school reunion in Chiba, said that uniting the DPJ has been difficult on the question of tax and social security reform, Fuji reported. He joked that he has to not only dodge “bullets” from the front but also from behind behind, in an apparent reference to Ozawa, as well as the nine defectors who left the DPJ last week and will move to form a new party named Kizuna on Wednesday.

"Ozawa making his first visit to the devastated region"(almost a year has gone by)"He received a big welcome when he visited elderly evacuees living in temporary housing."(while he lives in his nice warm house )I cannot find words suitable to describe this man. It has taken the man a year to visit the region, was he to busy before, why now? conscience,no can't be that,he doesn't have one, he doesn't really care about the japanese people. Maybe a PR exercise???The man is a supposed to be a criminal awaiting trial, and all he does is criticise.

times change and so should manifestos which are outdated. Ozawa is nothing but a trouble maker. Someone with so much power should do good for the community...not use it for his own political gain...

He should have invited all those people over to his huge house for KFC and a bath with dignity.

I never like Ozawa, but he is one of a few politicians who are anti-nuke. Hard to ignore him...

I am very angry to learn that Ozawa has not been in Tohoku to meet many Tsunami victims who have been displaced without hope and future while he has a time to go to Karaoke Bar or Geisha House with other politicians. This really shows his weak charactor and value as a political leader. He does not care. He is lacking compassion and love of people in humanity. . He is a worthless sh@@s! He is only hungry for POWER.
