Next year, maybe they could hold a similar meeting in Nanjing. Perhaps even involve some high ranking officials to represent Japan. I mean, after all, Chinese reps will be attending in August in Japan. Could they reciprocate? Ah, the key word, reciprocate.

Sure. Why don't you suggest it officially?

The difference between Nanjing and Hiroshima or Nagasaki is that while the Japanese don't use the cities as a symbol of anti-Americanism, the Chinese use Nanjing to focus their anti-Japanese sentiment. However, if the Chinese are willing to act rationally, i don't see why the Japanese would disagree to such a proposal.

Well you obviously don't know much about Japanese politics then. Many within the ruling LDP question if the Nanking massacre ever happened

All I get out of this is Pelosi is to visit and attend along with eight lower house chiefs in offering flowers and a monument to the Atomic bomb victims... And if the G8 meeting is there as well, why not since this was a history making event in Japan at this time of year and acknowledged world wide. What's the problem?
tclh at 09:02 PM JST - 27th July
What's the problem?..exactly,Kevin Rudd did it few months ago for peace's sake, now Pelosi will do it.What is the problem ?nothing.

Pelosi to visit Hiroshima
Good news.

Knowing Nancy Pelosi and her Frisco "Values", she'll likely apologize to Japan for the US using the a-bombs to end a war that the United States didn't want in the first place.

Nothing. That Hiroshima is memorialized by people from all over the world as representing hope for peace and that mankind never uses nuclear weapons on itself again are a known fact, not propaganda on the part of any group or govt, and you can find it all over the net.

Blue tiger.. she will likely apologize?????? You say so makes it reality???
Maybe she will, maybe she wont... I do not know and you do not know. One thing for certian it was an event that changed history and will be always documented in history, hopefully along with the rest of what brought the war to that point.
As for Japan and relations with the US, it seems to me all know what brought the war to that point and as for the relations between the US and Japan afterwards all seems to be fine and well understood. So is history understood between open nations such as Japan and the US. What is a shame is some other nations with power that try to conform the minds of its people where they do not understand history and facts about history, Like west of Japan, the land where censorship and control of a society still flurishes.. I for one am thankful for the relationship the US and Japan has shared since that event.

some claim Japan is the 'Britain of the East'. well, the U.K. was never nuked. twice for that matter. anyhow, the half-life of U238 is 750 million years. that means it'll take 750 million years for the radiation to clear to one-half. that's one-half, not all of it...

TonyUS, yes, I would not be at all surprised of House Speaker Pelosi apologizes for Hiroshima and Nagasaki. She has done as much with her view and version of toher points in US History; an apology for dropping the a-bombs would be in-character for her...

While I won't disagree that it may be in-character for her, I think it's really unfair (and rather pointless) to go on about something she hasn't done. And I'm not a Pelosi fan either.

It does not matter on whom and where and for which cause the A-bombs were dropped, the victims were victims. Paying respect to those who died from those bomb blasts is just.
TonyUS at 08:45 AM JST - 30th July
sure nipponlove, Just as all expected Japan to apologize for the war itself, But even still today I never hear the reason for Japan's lash out, but have read that it was because all were stariving it from natural resources to stop their prospering growth. I would like to get the whole story about that. All wars are devistating and there are reasons for wars being fought, some will find the reasons right and some will find them wrong. From what I read over and over all seems to find Japan wrong on this one, but still the reasons should be out front and understood which I am going to look into further. Does anyone know for a fact that Japan had not a good reason to lash out? Also was the US a backer of what I have read about cutting Japan off from the availability of natural resources that some were trying to stop its economical growth?
