    the defense department is extremely bloated and america's foreign policy is that of an empire, warped through the anti-communist fervor of the cold war, followed by unrelenting conflicts with the world of islam due to recognition of a quasi-theocratic polity with an entitlement mentality in the "jewish state" of israel, the approval of which is eagerly sought by clueless politicians who would seem to be bent on wearing their faith on their sleeves, like the good old anti-communists.

    now the us policy wonks are shifting into high gear with their "threat construction" propaganda machine trying to demonize china.

    meanwhile, the amount of money spent by the usa on "defense" (read "offense") dwarfs almost all other countries combines, and the economy of the usa sinks deeper into a stratified quagmire, with those connected to the military industrial complex succeeding disproportionately while just about everyone else struggles to maintain a foothold.

    the fact that lame congressman complain about job losses in their districts due to cuts in the defense budget demonstrates what a loss the usa is at for ideas. they have dug themselves so deep into a "defense" hole, that there is no telling when they will be able to climb out of it and see the light of day.
