Well I do wonder - a cheaper location could presumably enable higher salaries to be paid to attract talent.
It's not like Tokyo is the only worthwhile place in Japan to live.

It's often about schools. A lot of professional people are obsessed with getting their kids in the best schools....in Tokyo. That explains the "tanshin funin" phenom. Osaka, etc. is filled with these "married bachelors." That's Japan for you.
