this should serve as a clear example to countries not valuing the EU concept. Its not easy to go it alone these days. EVen the US could not stop Russia from causing devastation.

This request by the is a big joke. All they are looking for is for justification for their attack, which they ad none.

Hell since Japan did not return their request with a "good job there in fighting those evil doers!" Russia most likely will take steps against the Japanese also.

Russia is no better than the common street thug threatening their neighbors. Russia needs to be stopped, too bad the States does not have a President who is willing to stand up for their allies!

"I had hoped you (Japan) would have taken a clearer stance." Japan, as everyone knows by now does not have any hard and fast principles by which to take a stance. Japan only has "case by case" ethics, by which it avoids taking a stance, especially one that might be criticized by other, more powerful nations, to which it is beholden.

We can't condemn anyone until Russia stops moving the goalposts around.

Should Japan do this before or after it stops trying to make Russia look bad over the "northern territories" issue as reported previously. I think Japan needs to come out and condemn Russia for being a bully bent on rebuilding the "glory" of the soviet days.

unlike in China, Russian politician thugs dont realize the way their actions is stabilizing the economy, which leads to flight of capital.

If China followed the same strategy and invaded Taiwan, they would go back to the stone age as all the foreign investment would leave. Russia has very little to lose because they never really developed, so they prefer to rattle their sabers.

    sorry, i meant "destabilizing"

Clearly Russia has come out looking like the bad guy in all this. Perhaps had they simply occupied South Ossetia they may have been able to pull this off. But now that they've gone all over Georgia and are still playing games with the withdrawl they've signed, I don't see too many countries willing to support Russia on this issue. If Russia wants to go back to the cold war days it's their choice.

Why would Russia ask Japan and other G8 countries to agree with their viewpoint? Considering the G8 is mustly made of NATO Countries and their allies, does Russia really expect anything. Considering Russia is only a regional power, with ability to invade and bully, other poor Eastern-European countries, I doubt you will see any G8 countries (other than Russia agreeing with itself), agreeing with Russia. Like Pepin said Russia would be better tring to become a developed nation, rather than trying to start wars.
