Hope the South Koreans are mature, smart anddignified enough to use this building to instill pride in themselves, not throw hatred towards Japan. This isn't a buiolding in SKorea it;s in the United States.

A nice thought but.... Nationalism is based upon many varied basis; blood-links, arrogance over one group's perceived superiority, etc. Living in Korea, a lot of the nationalism being drilled in to the populace is to reinforce a 'martyr-syndrome', with all the problems being someone else's fault, primarily the Japanese, and most heroes coming from those who fought against them; I Sun-Sin, Gwon Yul, Gwak Jae-U, through to An Jung-Geun, Gim Gu, and An Chang-Ho. Indeed so much in Korean historiography (admittedly, not just Korean) and thus national pride, is based upon the fear and hatred of the other.

Well combine the People's Republic of China, and both Koreas simultaneously, launching an all-out armed conflict against Japan this 21st December. The result: Japan no longer exists in as little as 24 hours

What planet are you living on? Korean army is not capable of doing any major damage to japan and china have "no first strike" policy regarding nukes.

More likely scenario is north attacking south someday and all those refugee pouring into china destabilizing it even more.

those who think the US presence in both these countries isn't necessary ought to consider the fact that long simmering hatred of imperial japan still exists despite the fact that the japanese people pose no threat to modern day china or korea.

Have to say I'm not quite sure from this article how SK has somehow made a "jab" at Japan by buying this building.

@Phred Smith ".... despite the fact that the japanese people pose no threat to modern day china or korea."

Not all J-people, indeed the neighbors of Japan -- Russia, the Koreas, China & now including Taiwan ( used to be close partner of Japan & the biggest donor after the 3.11 disaster -- now takes side with China against Japan ) are convinced that Japan is gradually adopting policy for the revival of militarism under the R-Wingers' initiatives.

Or they're making that up so they can carry out their own aggressive policies towards Japan. Wouldn't be the first time a country's leaders have lied to carry out military action.

LOL, at Japantoday's jab at Korea again. How is this repurchasing of this building, a "jab at Japan"?

Korea buys the building for $25,000. Japan "buys" it from Korea for $5, then sells it for a huge profit. Korea than buys it back for $3.5 million.

And Korea has a "martyr syndrome", eh? How many times has Korea been the victim to Japan? How many times?

This is just one of about ten million cases.

Not exactly. Japan sold it to a private individual for $10.

This is a classic example of the corrupt system under Emperor Gojong where they were spending outrageously despite having very little fiscal revenues to support it. During which time Japan bought this, Japan was already contributing several hundred million yen to the Korean government.

Oh, so I'm sure the Koreans were thankful that the Japanese came in to fix things.

Just as clueless as Sony and Panasonic are right now, right? So maybe Samsung and LG should take them over and rip off all of their technologies, abuse their employees, and insult them by selling their factories for $10?
