In other words the guy got to express his displeasure with Japan over the Liancourt rocks issue and got a vacation in the process. It's a twofer

I like the way Japan couldn't care less if he comes and goes.

Hope he enjoyed extra 3 week summer holidays in Korea and now welcome back and enjoy 'bon' holidays in Japan.

If, as OssanULTRA writes, the Japanese government couldn't care less if he comes or goes, then the Japanese government is as infantile as, well, an infant. Most governments would be very concerned if an ambassador is recalled. This is a most serious diplomatic step and not one taken lightly.

The only Govt that has acted infantile in this who matter is SKorea. That's how the entire world sees it. Previous SKorean ambassadors have in the past invariably have had the responsibility of voicing a complaint to Japan, then acting like a 5 year old and going back to Skorea. THey have always returned. Not the ambassador's fault, they were just ordered to do so. NOTHING about this constitutes a "serious diplomatic step".
