while shrugging off speculation that the absence of Sarkozy’s wife, a former fashion model and singer, is a sign that France is making light of its relations with Japan.

While their own crown princess does not accompany the crown prince on his official duties? Yes I know she has problems, but you'd think that perhaps they'd realize that Sarkozy's wife might have other priorities, and not start the 'is it a snub against Japan?' malarky...

They probably hoped she'd come cause she's hot. At least that's why I'd want her to come.

Methinks some people wanted a glamour wife for photo ops doing Japanese things and getting quotes of her saying nice things about the people and its country. "Look - a chic woman likes us!!!"

What about Mrs Fukuda? Ain't she got the goods for hostessing this event? I wouldn't know her if I bumped into her at the bento shop.

Sarkozy's wife will be no-show at G-8 summit, disappointing many Japanese

and putting a small dent in the supposed prestige of this overhyped summit. If Japan doesn't land the 2016 Olympics, at least it won this summit.

The spouses of the Italian and German leaders are also not expected to visit Japan for the G-8 summit...

and so along with the spouse of the French President will be calling their husband every 10 minutes to see what they're up to.

Well thats blown it, what am I supposed to do with my time now that shes not coming to Japan? I had re-arranged my busy schedule, cancelled meetings, put my whole life on hold because the French presidents wife was coming. I just forked out ichi-man to have my hair cut like hers, and those chanel suits cost a fortune I can tell you. NOW what do I do ;)

people would be disappointed at not being able to see ‘‘a very popular’’ first lady. ‘‘It seems that it is inconvenient,

wouldn't be surprised if all those nerdy looking oyaji's would be snapping it away at narita if she does come.

  • dammit at 06:32 AM JST - 4th July

    people would be disappointed

Really? Like who? Nobutaka Machimura apparently, but who else? Oh right, all those voyeurs who got off on seeing that photo of her doing what "models" frequently do - acting like a ho in other words. Well, I'm sure they'll be almost as happy if they watch her image while having a "massage" instead.

‘‘It seems that it is inconvenient,’’ Machimura told a press conference, while shrugging off speculation that the absence of Sarkozy’s wife, a former fashion model and singer, is a sign that France is making light of its relations with Japan.

Inconvenient? For whom? Not me, not her, not Sarky. Mr Machimura again perhaps? But at least it's not the magnificent? Mr Machimura who's suggesting France is making light of its relations with Japan, in fact that suggestion has apparently been made by the press, as usual, angling for juicy gossip or at least semi-truths to publish for those who enjoy such things.
