and to cover these extra costs the govt forcibly takes out pension premiums of pensioners who are 75 and above. I thought the whole idea behind the pension scheme was to get support after retirement after paying into it for a minimum of 25 years.
The Japanese government is just a large yakuza gang which is very drunk with power.
I saw the comments the minister made on TV, the guy has no shame at all.
cnc...agree completely, particularly with your last comment. The guy defined the term arrogant in his press conference yesterday. Having the gall to rebuke a reporter who asked if he intended to resign, saying he could not imagine why anyone would even ask the question. I guess 23.4 million yen does not qualify as a serious offense by his standards.
This guy is a total tool. You may remember him as the guy who brought you classics such as "At least they have some genki in them" (refering to the Waseda gang rapists) and "the consumers are pain in the ass" (in a recent NHK interview)
He decided to "shuffle" his Cabinet in that peculiarly Japanese way of periodically reinvigorating a current adminstration, but he chose Seiichi Ota as one of his ministers, knowing full well Oda`s talent for generating controversy.
For what reason then?
I guess it is a family thing. Fukuda is married to one of Ota`s cousins.
Ota will be forced to resign next week at the latest.
The Fukuda administration will follow after the next Diet session.

Let the law authorities investigate but Ota should be taken into safe custody as he may commit suicide like former ag. minister.

How foolish is Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda?
He decided to "shuffle" his Cabinet in that peculiarly Japanese way of periodically reinvigorating a current adminstration, but he chose Seiichi Ota as one of his ministers, knowing full well Oda`s talent for generating controversy.
