This is proof that there are cooler heads in Taiwan than those of the new administration, and it's far more significant in terms of Taiwan's internal politics and foreign relations than a silly accident.

Seems Koh Se-kai is seeking J-Visa, he might be fired upon his return to Taiwan. From the protests being held in Taiwan, i doubt if they are divided over the issue.

Bring in a negative sense towards Japan into Taiwan's society towards Japan so the KMT can further their cozy relationship and give Taiwan back to the communist rulers of China which defeated the socialists militarily once and mentally twice over the past 5 decades. The KMT is always out powered or out witted by the communist party of China.

Doesn't the KMT ever ever ever ever learn from their past failures when dealing with China?????????

The failure this time will be for all of the Taiwanese, but how many will admit to their demise since the KMT has been voted in by the majority????

But... if one wants to put wealth over freedom, then please just kneel and kiss the ground of the mainland as we have seen KMT leaders in the past do!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soon it will be Taiwan, another one not able to put much trust into as the KMT hands the people of Taiwan into the clutches of the CCP. Would the technology of Taiwan’s allies that supply them with advanced weapons of today be handed over to China tomorrow???

That is all this is as all is blown out of proportion....trying to shift the peoples mindset against Japan so the KMT can continue on their way of uniting with the CCP as their main objective has been since they fled from CHina to Taiwan.. What a pity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have Taiwanese friends that very willingly voted for Mr. Hong Kong man. I will bet Mr. Jackie Chan supports Mr. Ma 110% on all of this.

Sure diplomacy is the best policy but over reaction is not going to help anything ecept to leave a long lasting bad taste in ones mouth and the friendship will already have been damaged, and by how far, no one will actually know until a long while down the road. Sometimes it is very long lasting. I believe this would not at all be a positive for Taiwan as for really not hurting Japan at all.

GOOD JOBKMT... The CCP has a lot admireres in Taiwan and they were feared of the rainof missles from the otherside but desperately thirsty of economic benfits from China. China has a very good intelligences network and infiltrations over adversaries not just Taiwan but around the world. So thats what the soviets failed to do but China capable.

Oh, stop the nonsense! It was KMT who tried not to revenge after WWII and Ma is no exception. Mind you he is the one who at every anniversary has paid tribute to 6.4 victims and called for more democracy in China. If Ma is considered particularly anti-Japan, maybe one should check South Korea first. I thought I just saw not so long ago another open list of the names of those who cooperated with the Japanese colonizers. It is also obvious what they say in their museums and etc. Has Taiwan ever done this? Yet one hardly ever hears any South Korean leader particualr anti-Japan but Ma seems to be given this label automatically.

Well, the Taiwanese captain has video to prove his case. Simply his ship was hit and repeatedly hit.

"ALWAYS"? Maybe never is a better word. People always ask why China and Koreas can't give up their upset over WWII. If the westerners can't appreciate it, the east asians probaly have no problem understanding each other on this. History is a perfect guide for current thinking as well. Japan lost to the States, not to China or Korea. Japan might not mind using money to smooth things but no clear apology will be offered. She didn't mind painstakingly (what else do you call those 30-or-so-years' effort) move the tablets of the class A war criminals to some shrine (of prominence) either but will never acknowledge there was anything to it. Their politicians should have a free hand in going to the shrine to make a stand but if ever Japan's neighbours have any reaction then they seemingly need to check the year on the calendar. Any unhappy westerner may ask why Germany has yet to erect anything grand for Hitler yet.

Here is the same thing. Any news title or even individual may say sorry (maybe privately really sorry they didn't confiscate the video) but NEVER could Japan do any wrong.

And don't pretend this is anything new, as if it were the first Taiwanese boat having been sunk by Japan. This captain is very lucky, at least compared to one seven years ago. That one, after losing his livelihood, was jailed, fined by Japan and is still trying to pay off his debt. Heaven forbid if anyone dares to claim any Japanese fault in this.

And don't pretend this will not happen again. Taiwanese may be divided in their opinions but the fishermen have never felt anything different for many years and no doubt what Japan will do to them next time around.

The DPP gave people an impression of pro Japan anti China. The KMT has to reverse this images when they need to forward to make business inside China. And the KMT blamed it was Japan behind that supporting Lee Tung Hui and Chen Shui Bien. This is the pay back time,unfortunately that involved Japan! Taiwan was diversed into two factions:Pro China blue camp and the Pro Japan Green camp. The DPP 's eight years rule was terribly hardships and someone has got to be blamed! This accident will sure escalating into a crsis, you know not all Taiwanese love Japan!

Nonsense. No leisure fishing vessel whether Taiwanese or Japanese is permitted into these waters by agreement between Taiwan and Japan. Is Taiwan incapsable of adhering to international agreements or presecuting it's own laws?

your exaggerations are unwarranted and Taiwan was well on the way of putting forth its identity, which who knows now what will be undone or at risk. Kneel to China and all will be fine, I guess that is the way to go.. some should cherish things acomplished instead of looking for fast fortune and throwing freedom out the window! As we had seen the blue party members and supports take advantage of time and time again agianst the green party during the so terrible years of the DDP// hahah What would the green party members and supporters have done if it was not for the openness of democracy that the blue party exercised????
