Eh? I thought it was historically China's, was occupied by Japan during their colonization of Taiwan, and then handed over to Japan by the Allies after WWII
Looks like the KMT are not prepared to destroy the very close relationship Taiwan has developed with Japan over the years,
partculary the last decade. Cool heads on Taiwan prevail.
Great move, Mr. Ma. This is how a good political system is supposed to function. Wonder why some other Asian leades cannot make cool-headed decision in this manner.
Federalist#No. 63--.There are particular moments in public affairs when the people, stimulated by some irregular passion, or some illicit advantage, or misled by the artful misrepresentations of interested men, may call for measures which they themselves will afterwards be most ready to lament and condemn. In these critical moments, how salutary will be the interference of some temperate and respectable body of citizens, in order to check the misguided career and to suspend the blow meditated by the people against themselves, until reason, justice and truth can regain their authority over the public mind.

Well it's good that the rhetoric is softening. As I said before Taiwan and Japan have been and will continue to be allies and trading partners.

The DiaoYu Islands are historically part of China & Taiwan. Why do the Japanese want to invade these islands?

They obviously aren't "historically" part of China or there woiuldn't be any debate. But the same could be said for Tibet as well.
