Tokyo governor conveys Abe's goodwill message to China

I support Governor Masuzoe's trip and hope that China and Japan start to get along.

But before that China has to learn how to be a responsible and respectful member of the international community. Otherwise, this any attempts at creating friendly relations will be meaningless.

China needs to be given a strong message from the international community, not a message with a soft tone. China is the aggressor here and its continued actions seizing ships, detaining staff of Japanese companies, stirring the pot over the senkaku islands, flying planes and ships close to Japans territory, incursions into its neighbours lands, take the kid gloves off and slap china in the face a couple of times to bring round to reality.

After sending an offering to Yasukuni. Like I said, Abe always does this kind of thing after intentionally aggravating ties so as to try and look good to the international community. Visit Yasukuni on Monday, on Monday night talk about how Abe values ties and wants things to improve. Decide to put military on remote islands to bolster claims on disputed islands on Wednesday, then Wednesday night talk about how both nations should put aside differences and cooperate. Ask other nations in the region to isolate China on Thursday and on Thursday night express how important ties with China are. Look at revisions to article 9, textbooks, apologies, and history in general, then claim they never had intended to in the first place and that all the nations should get along (after the US demands it), etc.

You see, the problem with Abe and Co., and this goes for China and SK as well, is that they never back up their lofty intentions for peace with anything at all in terms of action. It's all lip-service designed to curry international favor while they push their defense agendas, etc. Look at Obama's comment in Korea on sexual slavery -- Japan doesn't want it to be a "political issue", but they have no problem with not eating a bit of sushi being a source of political insult and rage.

A person without credibility representing another totally absent of credibility. How does one believe and trust whatever they say?

If you follow the news at all you'd know that Abe has continued to try to set up a meeting and China has continued to refuse.

OssanAmerica, he's also given them many reasons to continue to refuse. If you followed the news at all, you'd know this too. Sending a political pawn to pass along your message doesn't exactly scream sincerity, especially when you continue to stoke political fires by continuously visiting and sending offerings to Yasukuni Shrine.

That is a loop tactic used by Abe, he gives China and Korea a kick, then offers some sweet talks for which the world is his target audience, sometime later, Abe would just give his second kick...and the loop keeps on.

Very lame attempt to sidestep on the facts. Be that as may China has never really been that cooperative. If Abe was smarter, he'd go to Yasukuni privately if he wants China to negotiate. Even a child could figure out such thing. They have been neighbours for 50 freaking years after the war ended and still have no idea how to negotiate with an opponent that is hard to reason with. Get a clue, you are trying to set up a meeting with the country rounding up military around an island they don't own and keep giving them more reasons for them to be aggressive. Clueless oyaji need to retire and quit refuting every time someone criticises Japan.

I find it more to be pushing domestic agendas, but otherwise I agree with your statement. They all know (all parties here) they could easily dial things down, but they simply choose not to.

The Obama-Abe announcing success has been greatly exaggerated. A positive face has been put on small achievements. Japan’s future economic development and growth, international political relations, and security are inseparable from and dependent upon its relationships with China. There will be no alternative to competing in the Chinese market with Chinese domestic companies. It is now clear that for Japan to maintain its living standards and global competitiveness there is no alternative to deepening economic and technical integration with China.
