If China doesn't start a war with somebody, then it's working.

America should continue to be in Asia, In fact US should try to do more economically there and less military presence that may be perceived as containing China. Especially no need to inflame China with bases nearer to China. More bases in Australia, Singapore, Guam, second tier locations, anywhere further away, Just In Time presense is OK with China. Now that the cards had being played out, the parties opposing China understand US is not going to be used by them, so they got to negotiate seriously with China however unfair it seems to them.
You have two experienced war vets in Kerry and Hagel and this is a much needed reality check compared with the useless Hillary who actually cause more problems there in the last few years. China will co exist with US as long as US is seen as not taking sides in the disputes.

By the Year 2050, the focus for China will be India. India is expected to pass China on GDP by 2050, therefore, the Geopolitics will certainly follow suit...hence - "Pivot".

It is China that needs to learn to co-exist with it's neighbors and the rest of the world,. Seen another way, it needs to get off this method if using "Nationalism" to placate it's people. China needs "true patriots" as members of the Politburo, not party pawns dedicated to the preservation of the one-party dictatorship.
