;Japan may step in?

With landlocked Afghanistan right in China's backyard, I don't see that happening at all. Beijing would prob flip.

Japan should stop sending JSDF personnels to Afghanistan. Many of them are commiting suicide. Afghanistan is not Japan's responsiblity.

True. But Japan needs to step up it's security role more seriously. This could be a small way to assist while scoring some points with Washington following Abe's visit.

Why does one country have to foot the entire 25 million? Can't 5 countries pitch in 5 million each? 5 million is lot less painful to write-off and Japan has 20 million left as contingency fund if Afghans don't take over in 2016 which might very well be the case. Hasn't the world learned anything from Greeks?!?

There are no flights to and from the European Union because the Afghan Civil Aviation Authority is not recognized by the bloc, which cannot certify it due to safety deficiencies.

US is finally getting out. Do Japan need to use Afghan? Japan has no obligation to make Afghan income up or down,

Seems like with news like this that Japan is regaining its world's number 2 status. Long live then!

Afghanistan is not Japan's responsiblity.

@tina: This time you've said something I agree with

Hey, people want the US to pull out. Good luck travelers over flights.

If Japan spend 25 M, then Afghan will insist more and more nagging every month. They had experience with US, Foreign money is what they want. Japan has no obligation to protect other county's airplanes that fly on Afghan air. This time, follow the USA. Stay away from Afghan that just used US Military.
