Japan needs to build a heli pad on the island and station people there

i don't think this works. during cold war, usa y ussr both know they are strong, and hate and respect each other, and can talk respectfully to each other. but china-gov has the greatest complex of inferiority in the world, and won't tele-respect others that are more than 10 stronger per capita (if you divide anything china does by its population, it's zip, nil, negligible). poor japan is in for hatred and revenge to the end of times with the likes of china-gov culture of lies and deceit. hotline won't work.

Biden does not seem to understand that the target of the ADIZ is the United States. The U.S. is not the arbitrator but the party concerned. China is trying to abate the U.S. influence from Asia.

China will collapse internally and split into multiple states -- in the same way the soviet block did to create all of today's XXX-stans -- before they will have any influence impact on Japan or the rest of South East Asia. I'm talking within 5 years: social unrest will reach epic proportions throughout China, and they will not be able to contain it like they did in 1989. All the cashed up Chinese will escape to countries like Australia, NZ, Canada, USA, while the poor will be left to pick up what's left over. It will be for the better for all though.

"China will collapse internally and split into multiple states You Wish, winger!

That's exactly the problem of winger's day dreaming stupid thinking. Chinese/Kreans are inferior. They'll split into multiple countries. US's going to fight for J with A bombs.

Are you wingers serious? Look at yourself, you are passing by by everybody and your women do not even want to raise kids.

With this kind of winger men around, I don't blame them.

All what china wants is unity, thats why they're looking for a common enemy, they fear what happened to the Soviet Union. They clearly know why the Japan government bought the island, to prevent a worse mess. Still they just say that Japan is only looking for provocations, when people start going to the streets to claim rights, it will be a tuff time for china.

Hotline won't work if both of Japanese and Chinese don't grow up. Since Meiji Restoration, JP look up to Western and look down on all Asian, they mentally can't tolerate any other Asian to be equal with them, they feel so bad that suddenly someone(China) can push them backward... On the other hand, China suffered terrible history of being bullyed for 100 years till end of WW2 and they mentally can't get over it, the hatred ever made Chinese consociate to get strong but today they need more confidence instead of hatred to face foreigners.I believe it would take quite some time for JP to be more comfortable as Asian and for CN to be really more confident so as to show outside friendly face. Before both of them grow up this noise would continue, anyway, hopefully no war occurred by then.

Chinese could have bought this islands but they didn't get the idea because they did not want them but after Japan nationalize Senkaku/Daikon they started to worry Japan expending to close to China. Chinese fear from Japan may have some historical backgrounds.

Oh come on Washington!! Grow a Pair Please?

The only Hot Line Communist China intends to use is an infrared Radar Lock Line on a Japanese Warplane or Coast Guard Ship when China starts up their harassment Campaign against Japan.

Well the various criticism of the U.S. position certainly not unfounded. However lets remember that officially the United State is simply trying to avoid a potential conflict be it accidental or intentional and to that end a hotline would be a good idea. Unofficially we are continuing to close the noose to contain this threat to global peace and are making sure that China's new self declared ADIZ is nothing for us or our allies' military flights to be concerned about.

Seriously?

Shows how weak the US government is.

One minute they talk all big and bold and make it seem like they're all business.

Next minute they show their true cowardly colors. "Umm, China, sorry to bother you, but could you pretty please try to work out things with Japan and South Korea? We really do not want things to get out of hand. Thank you so much..."

The United States urged China Friday to set up an emergency hotline with Japan and South Korea to avoid confusion in its newly-declared airspace....

There is no confusion as far as China is concerned. It looks like the confused are primarily the Americans and the Japanese. can't wait for South Korea to do the same thing stretching their air defence zone to cover those islands in dispute with Japan.

For everyone advocating an escalation in tensions, I think they should put their money where their mouth is and sign up for the military. Just my two cents.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

China is the only country that seems to enjoy escalating tensions. It would make sense then for all the China supporters here to go join the PLA.

When the US acts people call it a warmonger... and it stays passive they call it cowardly. Ignore problems and get called cold-hearted... try to mediate them and get called nosey...

This constant hypocrisy is truly sickening. Are you really criticizing the US for simply suggesting steps to lower potential war-starting tensions....??

Are those rocks worth ruining the entire worlds economy and hurtling us into a bloodbath...? It appears that some of those in Washington don't think so.

Where did you get a distorted idea as Tokyo-star is a winger? I do not think he is.

For the past 20 years, the west has a secret subtle ambition against CCP.. We had given many global events including the Olympics to China, so that Chinese people can see how freedom and prosperity work well in democracy. Once the people understand and like a taste of freedom, then CCP authoritarian regime cannot govern the people. And it is slowly happening the way we planned. Yes, China will implode within.

Many Doom & Gloom Sayers predicted about Implosion of PRC since 1950. Some even said it will be less than five years back in 1960s due to famine and hardship of Great leap forward and Cultural revolution back then. It was the worst and worst time of PRC. Surprisingly It was not come true.

Self proclaimed fortune tellers or doom sayers are not Prophets or Gurus. If the future is according what they said, Son of God will be born again. Back in early 1990s, I read the book called as "Coming Collapse of China" written by another Guru Gordon Chang".

Although I am not a fan of PRC, I do not think PRC will implode soon. It is something unique about the longevity of more than 5000 years old civilization. They have survived for thousand years with wars, famine and natural disasters before the July 4th of 1776.

Gordon Chang and many doom sayers have been old and Grey now. Their dream of implosion has not come true yet. Right now, It has become economic power and modernized nation. Haters can keep dreaming about the fairy tale of the implosion.Unlikely they will not see that dream during their lifetime.

China claims the Senkaku islands are appendix islands of Taiwan. The ADIZ set up by China includes Japan's territorial sky over the Senkaku islands. But it does not include airspace over Taiwan which CCP claims as part of China. China's action is apparently provocative and increases tensions in the region. And Biden didn't ask China to withdraw the ADIZ or at least exclude the airspace over Senkaku. He instead suggested that Japan and China should set up a hotline to talk. But China is not stupid to go to war with Japan at this time and let the US be involved and lose everything. Precarious detante is what they want to see in this region (it might be more productive than perfect peace in various ways) while China's ADIZ will become a fait accompli as well as a good deflector for the people.

I disagree. You are of course correct that China has existed for thousands of years, but it has done so through changes, wars, revolutions over and over again. The PRC is the current "dynasty" and having tossed all of the good things about China out the window with the cultural revolution, it is an oppressor of it's people and a threat to the world. There is no reason that China can not exist without the CCP dictatorship.

You can dream and built your castle in the air, you can hate China all you want it doesn't matter to them.
