So when the US does nothing to help Japan when they start bleating about >abductions again, at least they might have a reason why.
The US has never done anything about the abductions with or without
any reasons. It's actually silly to expect Japan to listen to this
request since Japan can act as an intermediary between us and the Iranians.
Why would the US want Japan to skip a meeting with Iran - it wasn't like it was another "human rights" commission meeting. I would think that Nakasone might have been some help.
So much for "constructive engagement." Good on Japan for going on their own.

They are concerned about her only because she is of Japanese decent, right, not because she is a Japanese citizen or anything? That is baffling.

Probably didn't want her to become a pawn in US-Iran relations, and possibly her mother aksed the J govt for help?

When people mix two different problems, things get very confusing.
1 - Mix abducitons problems with nukes talks in NK.
2 - Mix journalist problem with Israel talk in Iran.
Bad idea in both situations. Keep them separeated.

I thought the new U.S. government was trying to put an end to this "silent treatment" nonsense anyhow.
