I wonder just how much green house gas emmissions were used to fly everyone to and from this G-8 summit.. not to mention all the motorcades..

  • timorborder at 03:20 PM JST - 2nd July

Cancel the summit, there seems to be no point in having this event if one of the participant's is going to torpedo discussions before the event starts.

I agree, Mother Nature needs to be included here.

  • rtrhead1 at 11:53 PM JST - 2nd July

It wasn't torpedoing. It was merely stating that without discussing with the countries that would be affected, they cannot just tell them what the council decided their emissions will be.

How can 8 countries decide what the WORLD will do without at least discussing with them first?

  • RepublicofTexas at 11:56 PM JST - 2nd July

The G-8 doesn't really decide for the world, but rather decides what they themselves will do and strongly urges the rest of the world to follow.

  • rtrhead1 at 12:03 AM JST - 3rd July

‘‘To us, it is not appropriate for the G-8 countries alone to set a goal or to pick a numerical target and then seek to impose it on major developing economies,’’ said Dan Price

    Apparently, somebody thinks they do.

Good job US no agreement that doesn't include China and India as they are already eating our lunch. I could give 2 sh*ts about the planet if the econmy crumbles. Maybe that's the whole key, once we're too poor to own cars or heat our houses there won't be a global warming problem. There's your inconvenient truth

The United States has done a good job of promoting the employment lifestyle of manufacturing, processing, packaging, and transporting food and goods around the world. Now the problems made manifest with the emergence of India and China show us; THIS IS NOT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPEMENT.

The only solution that can save our planet and keep it and the people healthy, safe, and truly free is to return back to the land. We must choose to gather our families together and create communities of beauty with trees and vegetation that provide food and pets that give fresh milk or eggs. There is no need to transport and pollute.

All nations can equally make their garden paradise. There is not enough technology or energy to conquer the energy and food crisis, pollution, wars, global warming, health care problems, famine, poverty, and immigration. Pollution continues as they use more polluting energy to try to manufacture an illusive clean technology. We must recognize that the goal in life is not employment; it is retirement in a garden paradise we can create here and now. If we live the stress-free lifestyle, we will wonder how we ever got trapped into the manufacturing bondage life.
