Get in on the ground floor Barack. Given the time difference, the President probably took a couple of minutes out of his summer vacation and drafted up some form letters that covered the scenario of the LDP winning, and the scenario of an DPJ victory. Then again, it does not really matter who wins in Japan. As long as they are willing to have calluses on their knees while figuratively pleasuring the US with their mouth, there will be no complaints from Washington.

On another note, it is interesting to note the reference to "shared democratic traditions" in Japan and the United States. This simple comment highlights both the ignorance and the blase attitude of the US in its relations in Japan. Indeed, Japanese democratic traditions are so strong that the LDP is out of office for only the second time since its creation. Strong democratic traditions indeed.
