In all my life, Ive never seen security like this. If the aim was to impress the proles by turning Yokohama into a scene from "1984" then mission accomplished. You cant go 50 meters in Yokohama without encountering an overzealous cop itching for something to do. One, I kid you not, actually tailed me in Landmark Tower for an hour because my bike was not parked properly.
21,000 police officers plus all the security vehicles and equipment. Who is paying for this?
The Japanese govt. loves to host these type of international events whenever possible in order to make Japan appear relevant in today's world. Unfortunately, it doesn't play...
There needs to be a counter-Chinese business/manufacturing alliance. Otherwise it won't be long before the -only- well-off country is China and everyone else is living in appliance crates
and eating rats (or cats) for dinner.
The US and Japan complement each other nicely - Japan having some traits the US lacks and vice-versa. This symbiotic relationship needs to be strengthened, and deliberately aimed at snatching away a slice of Chinas pie. Obama seems interested in India, which may be the "other China" although not quite yet. India has brains and manpower, but no real sense of direction. If the US and Japan buddy-up with India NOW, before the Chinese lay claim, the three could actually stake out a claim in the 21st-century business environment.
It should have been held online as a virtual conference considering that many of the governments involved are crying poor mouth about being financially broke.

Conversation is always better than bullets. The summit will be productive as long as Japan's neighbors don't ask for welfare.
