China would never become the ally for the U.S. in the foreseeable future because this U.S.-China partnership is based on commercial, trade, economic ties whereas the U.S.-Japan alliance is comprehensive, including security, economic, cultural and social ties.

Keiko Iizuka, a Japanese journalist currently a visiting fellow at the Washington-based Brookings Institution, said it was “not wise to compare” U.S. relations with China and Japan, no matter who the next U.S. president is. (AFP)

Actually China don't need America in any way, probably i could say America will need China someday, because now as you see world's economy is cracking down anywhere but China is OK. I'm sure they will continue growing in the same way becoming stronger economically than U.S., then the question is... Would China be interested to deal or to be Japan's ally?.

He's correct but the true underlying cause is that China is a rival for world power with a differnt view than the US. We may need China for trade but at the heart of the matter we don't trust China's ambitions. omarbabilon: China and the US need each other in trade relations equally. China needs the US to buy their goods. As the global economy slows China is not doing ok either

Keiko-san got it wrong. Any country, particularly America, is interested in enhancing its wealth as a nation. The US foreign policies have not been persistent as seen in their relations with the Middle East and North Korea. America, when weighs the vast possibilities it has with China in commerce, trade and economy against costly security agreements and deficit-ridden commerce with Japan, is likely to abandon Japan. The Japanese should snap out of their reveries that they live in security with America, and have a critical mind toward them.
