Maybe it has something to do with the fact, that there is none of this in Japan? And that statemenrt was made by a gentleman who makes a living by selling his own "risk consulting"?

You could argue the level of terrorism faced by US firms domestically is rather low, too - correct? The home country risk of companies is not what he is addressing. He deals with Japanese firms that have business internationally. Many of these firms have been doing so for decades purchasing raw materials, selling finished goods and opening up factories. He is employed by a firm that is part of a large insurance company. Hedging and studying risk in all forms is their bread & butter.

Japanese show a relatively low level of awareness toward most things compared to US and European counterparts..not just terrorism n kidnapping. They only become "aware" of something when the news decides its worthy of attention or when it affects their opinions or interests or brethren. Just the other day a person tried to engage me in conversation with "Isnt it terrible that 10 japanese died in Algeria?"..errm..I guess..it wasnt just Japanese, you know? But you're not aware of that..are you now.

How can awareness in Japan improve? Well, start with getting rid of the "shouganai" and "shikataganai" attitude. Everything that's spread in the news means that in one way or another, directly or indirectly, it affects everyone.

My mistake, I wrote "in Japan". But of course I meant "worldwide to japanese people"..
Or can you give me an example of this having happened to any japanese?
And to make it more precise, what difference would the consulting fee paid to this specialist have made in Algeria??
