First of all, too many people are raising dogs in Japan, and people tend to view their lives too lightly. While some people treat dogs as part of their family, others buy them for simple reasons like celebrating a daughter's birthday.

Kensuke Kuramoto, a dog trainer, saying too many people treat dogs like toys and trinkets and then abandon them once the novelty has worn off. (Reuters)

    Change the word 'dogs' with 'children' and you would be closer to the truth about Japan.
