Half of single mothers only graduated from junior high school, which makes it difficult for them to get a high-paying job and make enough money for their children to get a higher education.

Naomi Yuzawa, a professor of family policy at Rikkyo University Community and Human Services College, commenting on the plight of single mothers since the government terminated financial assistance in April. (Japan Times)
