Former U.S. Vice President Walter Mondale, a Minnesota superdelegate to the Democratic national convention and former U.S. ambassador to Japan under President Bill Clinton, emphasizing Sen Barack Obama’s interest in maintaining strong U.S.-Japan relations. Mondale, who is an honorary co-chair of the Obama campaign’s U.S.-Japan policy committee, told a group of Japanese senior editors that the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee is a ‘‘brilliant man’’ who is interested in nurturing a ‘‘sophisticated and effective policy’’ with regard to the two countries’ diplomatic ties.
