quote of the day

If Obama apologizes at Hiroshima, it draws attention to Japanese behavior elsewhere in Asia during the ’30s and ’40s. It might even be demanded that the Japanese government and emperor go to Singapore

Well then, bring it on, I say. Bring it on.

The thought of Botchan having to really confront his (and his granfather's) horrible past and not being able to play victim.

(I'm not holding my breath, by the way)

What did the current Crown Prince do?

What did President Obama do?

Obama need not set the example & apologize first. Japan started war in the pacific way before Pearl Harbor. No -it is entirely upon the Japanese themselves to go out to places like Nanjing, P.I. Singapore etc.

I guess Obama could apologize for America killing many innocent people who themselves were really victims of the Japanese leadership of the time... and remind the Japanese people that where the current leadership is taking them could be a very bad place indeed. Opportunity could be used well.

I have not seen any examples of Japanese asking Obama to apologize. Has anyone asked him to do this? Even the atom bomb survivors interviewed by NHK didn't want an apology.

Some people have nothing more to do than write conjecture about things that are not planned and are not going to happen.

Now I understand why no apology is demanded.
