In Japan, iPads fail to distinguish themselves as a business tool from lightweight laptops.

Ichiro Michikoshi, an analyst at research firm BCN Inc in Tokyo. Japanese workers have not embraced iPad tablets because they aren’t light or fast enough to replace laptops. (Bloomberg)

He may or may not be right but just yesterday I had one restaurant and one small bookstore use the iPad as a cash register. I've also seen two or three salespeople using an IPad as their visual display/catalog. I'm also old enough to remember when Japanese workers were not embracing desktop computers because they were not.... Something enough.

Well, he's right. They aren't fast enough for sure. Get a real laptop, install what you want on it. iPads are great for fun but not for business.

I see iPad as purely a gadget for fun. To an extent and piece of high tech "jewelry" that have fun features but limited capabilities. in order to do anything, you need an app for that. Business-wise, it's a hassle that you have to create an app to do anything specific. Giving presentation/demostration with interactive feature is exciting for customers/audience, but it's limited to what else it can do. A laptop, or an tablet PC can do everything it's designed to do.
Android tablets, on the other hands, have lots of customizing capabilities and are easier to modify, add or remove. Maybe Android can be used in business, but not iPad, currently.

I really dont want to buy an Ipad and a few years later it will become obsolete. Thats what I worry about. because every 1 1/2 Apple comes out with something new.
