Meanwhile Japanese politicians will continue to deny historical facts and sprout total nonsense....

Japan has honour on this topic?

abe is clearly an idiot!

Earth to abe, Japans honour is stained because of Japans actions from the 1930-45! This was ALL done by the country of Japan, its people, its politicians, its "media" etc etc etc etc & the same keep staining Japans reputation at a stead pace going on 70yrs since WWII ended.

Sorry abe you cant pin this on asahi! I suggest a look in the mirror for a starting point!

Japan’s honor has been stained in the international community because of the Asahi Shimbun’s erroneous reporting.

No worse than you sending your respects/best wishes to a ceremony specifically designed to honor war criminals. LOL.

Clearly Japan's reputation has been stained because of Abe and his right-wing/neo-Nazi friends.

Wow. Talk about just not getting it. No wonder 80 years hasn't been sufficient.

Not mine, but a good one!

I agree. You mean he thinks that the Asahi Shimbun is solely responsible for "staining" the reputation of Japan?

Quite a few well-meaning Japanese acquaintances have pointed me to the Asahi's apology (English version) as if they really thought that that particular media outlet had previously given me a bad impression of Japan. Talk about out of touch!

No. Asahi and South Korea.

Because you are not the one being bullied all the time by South Korea. So you don't know how much Japanese have been hurt by them.

Abe is so out of touch with reality that he doesn't know what century he is living in.

It's about time to pull him off post, before he does any more damage.

He's done more than enough already.

Abe's approval ratings went up to 64% even after tax hike, which shows how well he is representing Japan.

and Abe.

So you don't know how much Japanese have been hurt by them.

do you really think some negative comments from a country you are in disagreement with has more influence than the actions of your own politicians?

For me, I do not read about what China and Korea have to say about Japan, but I notice the really stupid things Abe, Aso and their pals say and do, and want to yell at them for embarrassing Japan. That's right Tina, most of us here are on 'Japan's side'

Tina,

Currently Abe's ratings are about 48%.

He might be representing his ultra right-wing friends, but he certainly is not representing the whole of the country. He and his party are facing some very big problems - one notable one is in Okinawa.

Bertie your data is old. Mine is after Cabinet reshuffle. People like you are helping Abe, thank you.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Because you are not the one being bullied all the time by South Korea. So you don't know how much Japanese have been hurt by them.

Always the victim, eh?

@BertieWooster,

Wrong. His ratings for early September are:

http://the-japan-news.com/news/article/0001547443 -- 64%

http://jen.jiji.com/jc/eng?g=eco&k=2014091200665 -- above 50%

On topic --

Its somewhat true that Asahi's irresponsible reporting has helped to tarnish Japan's reputation. That being said, the denial by some Japanese officials certainly did not engender respect for Japan on this particular issue.

It was not really Asahi's fabrication that hurted Japan, but South Korea who jumped at the story and used it to tarnish Japan's reputation around the globe that made Japanese mentaly suffer.

Actually, it was the military rape of children and women, combined with the denials of said wrongs, that have tarnished Japan's reputation in the world.

If they had never used the sex-slaves, or dealt head-on with the issue instead of trying to deny it, the Japanese could fix any harm to their reputation. But instead, right-wingers keep on hurting Japan's reputation by continuing to try to whitewash the parts of their history they are ashamed of.

Japan is 100% confident that it all started from Asahi's fabrication. US and Japan have documented evidence. Maybe SK should sue Japan or cut diplomatic relation. Japan doesn't care.

The right-wingers are confident. Fortunately right-wingers only represent a tiny portion of the population. Unfortunately they are a loud annoying portion of the population.

Japan doesn't care.

You are clueless if you think that the Japanese don't care about Koreans cutting ties with Japan. S. Korea is one of Japan's major trading partners, and there are a lot more people who make their livelihood off trade with Korea, than there are right-wingers who would rather hurt their people with these denials, than just keep their mouths shut for the sake of moving forward.

Abe has high approval ratings.

just keep their mouths shut for the sake of moving forward.

It is SK that doesn't mouths shut whining and kicking.

I think you're clueless Strangerland. You wait and see Japan's trade with SK will go further down and down. You'll see.
