Japan has been too quiet and hardly made itself felt on the world stage. Anime and manga are one of the few ways in which Japan can exert influence on other countries.

That's not true. The whole world knows that Japan is the home of child porn and lax laws against childporn.

Magical, fantasy children superheroes with blue, spikey hair are not going to influence any but the weak minded. Don't fool yourself.

japan might make a better impression on the world stage if it could finally throw off the shackles of its past and start looking to a new future rather than trying to live off an idealised image of its past, or poor approximations of culture from abroad

manga isn't exactly a heavyweight cultural export. i was quite interested in it in my teens, but not anymore

i fail to see how violent porn comic books would influence other countries except for them to ban their import
