Japan needs a prime minister who can offer robust, principled leadership over a sustained period, win support for economic policies that would help pull the world out of recession and maintain a strong alliance with the United States.

Forget robust, principled, and sustained periods. Japan PMs are good at weak, corrupt and quick.

What the world has to learn is that not politicians rule the world, but banks. Hence we are looking at the wrong people for help out of this malaise.

In short, we need a miracle.

I don't know why it has to be just the United States, but right on, I agree with this quote. Too bad it will probably never happen.

Japan also needs a few In-N-Out Burger joints, more Tokyo-area homes with back yards, and wider, palm-tree lined highways for easy cruisin'. But like that will ever happen!

This editorial really says nothing. Is anyone actually proposing the opposite, a prime minister who can offer timid, unprincipled leadership over a short period and then quit, without winning support for economic policies that would help pull the world out of recession and dump the strong alliance with the United States?

In another editorial, the times calls for good weather and clean parks.

US and Japan have maintained a good strong relationship for many decades now, not sure why that has to change. Don't think anyone wants to change that. If someone knew of a grand idea of pulling the economy out of the recession I think they would do that by now.
