Just because it sells overseas doesn’t necessarily mean Japanese consumers will take to it. It’s unlikely that Android will become an instant hit, but the platform has a lot of potential three to five years down the road.

it's true that japanese phones have developed a lot of proprietary technology that people have got rather used to in the past few years. it's a shame that such a focus on these features might discourage the adoption of open/international standards that could offer the same functionality. but i'm afraid that's very typical behaviour
