Longer paid holidays would have a significant impact on the travel industry and that would stimulate economic restructuring of battered regional economies.

Hirotaka Yamauchi, Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management, Graduate School, Hitotsubashi University. For the first time, Japan will enjoy a five-day public holiday in September that the media have dubbed “silver week.” (Bloomberg)

I doubt that the whole country taking holiday at the same time helps the tourism industry. Sure they can massively inflate their prices for that one week, but then places are empty for the rest of the year because people can't take holiday when they want (or they can but don't want to lose face in the workplace for taking holiday when others have to work).

The whole country does not have those days in September off. For example, Toyota group companies dont recognize the newsilver weekand so their employees do not have it as a holiday. Only the private sector Id imagine.
