Sadly enough, there need to be storage sites. It simply shows the ignorance of people about nuclear energy, that so many do not understand the problem.
The obvious place to build the storage sites, are the already contaminated areas in Fuskushima. Of course the usual corruption will probably prevent doing the obvious.

All storage depots for low level decontamination waste and also the highly irradiated waste from the Fukushima atomic plant should be built inside the no-zone because much of the area will be off limits for decades.
Sub-contractors employed for decontamination are dumping the collected waste into rivers and fields just because there's nowhere to take it?

I understand the urge to just dump all the contaminated waste in the no-go area, after all it can't be used for anything else for a long, long time. But we know that area is subject to earthquakes and tsunami (hence the problem in the first place); how long before the waste is spread over the whole of Tohoku and carried out to sea to affect fishing and give the Americans pain when it reaches them?

Why doesn't the government limit spreading contamination by leaving this stuff in already contaminated areas? Should be a no brainer. But then again that phrase often describes the leaders who make these decisions.
