On the one hand, you have young people who are taking matters into their own hands in the face of companies and a government who have little to offer them in return. But on the other hand, you have young people who are looking for an easy way out, seeking shelters that are fast disappearing. It will be slow, but I think there will be more gutsy young people going forward.

Yasuo Suwa, a professor at Hosei University’s graduate school. He says that Japan’s economic uncertainty is giving birth to a do-it-yourself mindset that could generate welcome dynamism. (Reuters)

    I think the Japanese always had the do-it-yourself mindset. the only problem is that the government keeps turning around and destroying everything. so the poor kokumin have to rebuild from scratch.

    never happen.. "do-it-yourself" individuality, taking initiative, breaking from institutionalised mindsets is a long way off for Japan.
