Unfortunately every year we use more energy than we did the year before. All that energy adds up, and much of it is wasted by using too much or not using it wisely. Energy isn't free so wasting it is not a good idea and not good for the environment either. Most of the energy we depend on, like coal and natural gas, can't be replaced so once we use them up, they're gone forever. Thus most forms of energy can cause pollution. Conservation reduces the emissions that cause ground level ozone and mercury poisoning. That means reductions in pollution that can save lives. So conserve for your health and the health of your family.

People won't change their behavior until it becomes the selfish exception rather than the harmonious norm.

Two years ago people were willing to turn off their air conditioner and have all neon lights for OOH adverts turned off. THAT is NOT the NORM.

I will never forgive the rail operators for making us endure 3+ years of setsuden - meanwhile keeping fares the same price. They must've saved hundreds of millions of yen at the expense of the disgruntled commuters. Where did those savings go, guys? Into the coffers of the 'old boys club' directors?
