People are very concerned about the money. They don’t want the family to spend hundreds of thousands of yen to pay a priest to chant Buddhist scriptures they don’t believe in.

Midori Kotani, a senior research director at Dai- Ichi Life Research Institute Inc. As religious beliefs wane in Japan, more people are looking for a cheaper funeral option. (Bloomberg)

    Well, that's just sad.

My family have at least two budhist monks in our ranks, so we get that for free.

If it were up to me, I'd have my body put in bin-bags and thrown out with the trash. There's a power station in Sweden where they incinerate dead rabbits for fuel. They could just chuck me in there. It's strange how bothered religion is about corpses, when the spirit has gone and all that's left is just meat. In fact, if I die young and fairly disease free, it would be nice if my family and friends could cook me up and eat me. Then I'd know that something of me would live on after I was gone.
