People overseas seem to know more about the charms of Akita dogs than the Japanese.

Agree. Beautiful dogs. Big! But my friend let his get too undisciplined and they got rid of it cuz of a new baby. Still wouldn't pay the ridiculous ¥150,000 + price tag here for a new puppy. Think I'll get one in the States and bring it over in a privet jet.

The charms of a dog need to be developed by training. Tying a dog up on a 1 metre chain and never exercising a dog creates a frustrated aggressive beast. The most charming dogs are often mongrels, mixes rather than purebreds. Mongrels are tend to be healthier as they are less inbred.
Why pay so much for a purebred, or should I say inbred, dog when there are so many beautiful dogs available for nothing? Paying for a dog only encourages puppy factories and the disgusting pet shop business. There are shelters like ARK that will find you a good.
I have had a number of pets in Japan, none purchased. One cat came from a shelter. Others were found, or found me. I have also found a home for a dumped dog. Another dog was adopted from an owner that never exercised her.
