The cooking trend among young men probably started with 'Bistro SMAP.' Now, being able to cook is considered a plus when it comes to finding a wife.

Junko Yoshihara, manager of ABC Cooking’s Marunouchi studio, saying that classes for men have become more popular. (Japan Times)

Maybe it is a cultural thing. I am an American male, and learned to cook at my first job working at KFC. Now I have been told that I am a great cook by some of my Japanese male friends, and they wonder how did I learn. Nothing too it, just stand in the kitchen and start trying out receipies.

Plus the fact that when I went to college I had to learn how to cook on my own and after college until I was married I cooked daily. Do these guys over here only eat our or rely on "mommie" or some other person to cook for them?

    Incredible.

"Bistro SMAP"? There's nothing wrong with being naked while cooking!

Seriously: Cooking is a manly art, a real man is able to fend for himself whether it be in the jungle or the urban jungle. And Japan's big cities have such a great selection of knives.. I especially like that kitchen town near Tsukiji.

yes thats incredible but many things are, married men trying to score with cat walk models by pretending to be magazine editors is more incredible...but that happens too and is way more pathetic than men not being able to cook(i mean follow recipes)
