The science ministry should have told the nuclear disaster task force to pass on the data to the people. But we didn't think of that.
Quote of the Day ( 5 )
Science ministry official Itaru Watanabe. The ministry has been accused of betraying its own people by giving the American military information about the spread of radiation from Fukushima more than a week before it told the Japanese public. Watanabe said the government did this to secure U.S. support in dealing with the nuclear crisis. (ABC)

I'm surprised that this isn't bigger news. Maybe no one is surprised anymore.

all of these failures regarding the iodine pills, SPEEDI data, contaminated materials cannot just be errors. There has been an organised cover-up and saving of face by government officials and their paid scientists from the beginning.Disgusting.

Just going to show yet again, that a "good" education in Japan doesn't actually equate to being smart, and certainly what is learned, is never a transferable skill.
This week we heard Tokyo Uni will change to an Autumn school year. Forget that, just close the place; it's nothing but a civil servant/Govt minister prep school anyway, and clearly can't even manage to do that very well, as we have seen time and time again.
As for Mr Watanabe's reasoning, I'm pretty sure the Govt would have secured more support by being frank and open with EVERYONE.

TEPCO and the government score another goal against the people of Japan!
Whether or not the public's safety is on the line, the government and TEPCO should have been releasing timely information.
Oh wait ... they DO release information on a timely basis ... time when things are out of hand!

Watanabe forgot his brain some place. Maybe it is with those gold pachinko balls.
