quote of the day
We have operational capacity, experience know-how, and I don’t think we would be stretched to participate in more than one casino resort.

We don't need casinos.
We have pachinko.
But we don't need that either,

Did I miss the memo or has this been gambling week on JT this week? First, yesterday led with the story of gambling, alcohol and internet addictions being rife in Japan. Then we had the somewhat contradictory story of the decline of pachinko parlors in the lifestyle section and now the quote of the day about Universal Studios having the capability to open up more than one casino. Maybe JT is addicted to stories related to gambling.

Why do we need to get foreign casino operators involved?

Because Japan is actively promoting free trade deals, and deliberately shutting the doors on foreign investment clearly runs counter to the spirit of these deals.

Love them or loathe them - casinos need to happen. The govt need to double the number of tourists coming annually and casinos will make this happen. We're not talking one in every town, just one or two major casinos. It's not just about the gambling angle, casinos also provide live entertainment, restaurants and hotel accommodation among other things. I personally don't like casinos, but think of the jobs that will be created and, more importantly, the tax revenue for the govt.
